About the Author

My name is Rob Dawkins, I live in Essex and have done so all of my life. I currently live overlooking the River Thames with views across to neighbouring Kent (the old enemy - Cricket wise anyway!) I retired in July of 2009 after dedicating my life to teaching, 35 years worth anyway, always teaching Primary school children, usually 9 to 11 year olds.

In 2003 I discovered the "pleasures" of eBay and while browsing through WW1 collectables, I discovered silk postcards. I purchased one or two that had been hand sewn by probably little old French ladies, for sale to the allies. I then found a beautiful silk card that was more like a photograph than the ones I had purchased before. This was my first Flames purchase. I was hooked...

I did some research and dicsovered that there were altogether, 66 in the series. I decided that I would try and collect them all (I still have JUST 4 to find ). If you can help me find them... Wow!

In 2005 with retirement begininning to loom, I had the idea of visiting each of the Flames sites and trying to take a photograph from the same perspective. With this in mind I began to plan for it. In May 2010, the dream became reality. The photographs were taken by myself and have now been made into a book. I decided that there maybe others in the world who may also share my passion for this Flames series, so I decided to also create this website.

I hope you enjoy looking...

Please leave any comments, should you so wish, on the guestbook.

Thanks
